online applications

How timely! Yesterday I was channel surfing, and I came across some talk show and this guest was chatting up his book about why online spreadsheets and documents are not a very good idea. Unfortunately, I didn't get the man's name or book title, but I did listen to him for a while, and he was very interesting. His deal was that while this is a convienient way to share info, it isn't very safe. He went on to talk about how there are people out there in the cyberworld who would like to bring places of business down, or stealing money, identity, etc etc by hacking into "safe" (you know, password protected, invite only)places and implanting little virus BOTS, which can lay around doing nothing til they get the command....they can do all sorts of things from deleting numbers out of spreadsheet budgets, to crashing hard drives. So, for online applications, it's easy, and it's convienient, but do I really want my spreadsheets and documents in a public domain? My answer is no. No way, nada, uhuh, Nope. That's my buzz, back to bizz

Search Engines

Today I made the time to do some searching on the web using different search engines. While searching around with some different engines may or may not produce some different info, I still think I prefer the big G, google that is. And Yahoo! I do like yahoo also. That's the buzz, back to the bizz.

Podcasting

Well, here's the bizz on this week's buzz. I know there is a use for podcasting in the library because we already do it with the kidsbooks. (Which are great fun to listen too, only I wish they had that bouncing ball, (ding!) and the pages to look at)

My personal preference is I want to listen only if it's pretty short and to the point, none of this half hour or more stuff for me, only because you have to be connected to a computer, (or yes I know an MP3 player, and you already know how I feel about that!) and I don't like to sit that long. Besides, who wants to sit around and listen to a computer when there is SOoooo much more visual stuff you can actually look at when your on the computer. And that's just my little personal opinion, for whatever that is worth. Not much, I'd say. But all in all, I really do see that podcasting is another great resource worth having, and that's the buzz, now back to bizz.

overdrive

This was really user unfriendly!

I downloaded, I browsed, I put a book on hold.

Not sure if I'll ever use this service. Here's the deal,

I've had an MP3 player for 2 years, and have never

even took it out of the box, so why would I ever do this?
